Scotland Travel Tips and Road Reports
Here are a just a small number of reasons why you should enjoy winter breaks in Scotland to the full – and worry as little as possible about getting there:-
- Inbound flights to the major cities are never cheaper – and quieter
- The roads are notably quieter
- The resorts and key destinations are quieter
- Full ferry and sea travel timetables run throughout except in very inclement weather - which can happen anywhere!
- Rail travel timetables are extensive and there are some good cheap deals here too
- Hiring a car is usually cheaper and there are better deals around
- A huge choice of quality hotels and accommodation – whether serviced or self catered - at prices rarely beaten. Superb deals abound – perhaps a chance to raise your expectations and treat yourself to that hotel experience you thought you couldn’t afford
- Winter sports in Scotland are sensational
- Most visitor attractions are open - and certainly all the major ones.
- Scottish scenery, especially in the highlands, is at its majestic and dramatic best
And – most importantly - In Scotland we have one of the most alert roads maintenance systems in the UK, especially for counteracting current and anticipated future weather - experience has taught us this. So we react to adverse weather possibly better and more positively than in any other part of the UK - the result is that travel routes of all kinds are rarely closed. How often do you read of the consternation, havoc and disruption caused by snow in England and Wales and yet Scotland is rarely mentioned? Because we’re better prepared - that’s why!
